While crowds of Chinese gather in Beijing's Tiananmen Square to celebrate the people's republic's 57th birthday, thousands of young Chinese have been flocking to the capital's western suburbs to worship rock and roll.

It is rare for the government to sponsor a rock music festival, and this one will rock usually quiet western Beijing for seven days in a row – a huge army of 77 bands has been invited to play at the outdoor venue.

The festival begins at 2:30 every afternoon of the National Day Holiday, but things really hot up when night falls in International Sculpture Park. The sound is sometimes so deafening it can be heard in nearby Babaoshan Cemetery where many of the country's founding fathers and revolutionary martyrs lie in peace.

"Rock it up, friends, to beat the cool night!" Ying Peng, vocalist of the power metal band Ordnance, yelled at 2,000 fans standing in front of the stage, as he performed the band's famous number "Struggle."

The crowd exploded. People shouted, jumped and danced. Some firmly gave the middle-finger salute, and some splashed cups of beer into the air.

China may be taking the world economy by storm, but its cultural sector is developing quite slowly. Rock, the western-born music style which has nurtured scores of Chinese bands, is still struggling for acceptance 20 years after entering the country.

The music, viewed as angry and rebellious, was scorned by most Chinese whose traditional culture values obedience and hierarchy more than freedom.

"China's rock and roll needs to fight. We need to fight with people who never listen to rock music but criticize it a lot, and fight with people who try to get in to rock concerts for free," the skinny but energetic Beijing native Ying shouted to the screaming crowd.

In the capital Beijing, less than five clubs host regular rock performances. Outdoor festivals are therefore a rare opportunity for rock bands to be heard.

"Rock is still a sensitive topic in China," said Jing Ziye, chief organizer of the festival. He said the government's authorization of the outdoor concert was "extremely difficult to obtain" as officials fear excited crowds will cause social instability.

Jing said it is the first rock concert directly sponsored by the government with 360 police and safety guards present for each day's performances. Performances have to end by 10 PM.

Despite all the difficulties, the rockers seem to be making progress. Their music is increasingly popular with young people.

People attending the Beijing festival are mostly in the 20s. Many dress up in typical punk fashion with spikes, chains, and Mohawk style haircuts. The less frenetic fans also wear T-shits with pictures of rock bands such as Nirvana, Radiohead and domestic groups.

Cheng Xiang, a 20-year-old from the central province of Henan, said he had a tough train ride and slept only one hour on his way to Beijing. He paid 280 yuan (US$35) for a seven-day ticket to the festival.

"How can we stay home and listen to rock music downloaded from the Internet all the time? I think we should move and act out the rocker life," Cheng said in a weak voice that had not recovered from the cold.

During the performances, he took part in nearly every crowd-surf and pogo, a free-style dance often seen in punk concerts where dancers can occasionally go offbeat and collide with others. "We don't hurt each other. Energetic, aggressive, but still friendly – that is the character of today's rock fans," Cheng said.

Rock has been bubbling away in China for 20 years but it has not yet reached its prime, said Jing, who is also a director of China Performing Arts Agency, China's major art performance promotion company.

He said at present rock has little commercial viability in China, but the potential is great.

"Holding a concert like this is not profitable," said Jing, adding that they have no company sponsors and need to sell tickets worth at least 600,000 yuan per day, which is not easy with a daily audience of only 3,000 people on average.

But he is hopeful about rock's future. "You see, there are so many young people coming to the festival. Rock will eventually become popular, it's just a question of time."

The government seems to be aware of the trend too, because it has given the green light to more outdoor rock concerts over the past few months. Three large outdoor rock festivals have been held in Beijing alone since May.

In hosting the festival, Jing said he wanted to promote rock music among ordinary Chinese and build trust with the government so that he can convince them that rock and roll is "not as dangerous as most people think," he said.

The Beast Movie

Some recent foolishness from the heart of fools, is a malicious attack upon the person of the Lord Jesus Christ in the upcoming movie, appropriately, titled "The Beast". The demonic phony plot is to "prove" that the Lord Jesus never even existed, while at the same time paint Christians as crazed lunatics. So what’s new? This has been the lofty goal of Satan and his unholy hounds of hell for the last two thousand years.

They would be more successful drinking the Pacific and Atlantic ocean, then afterwards take a fast lap or two around Jupiter. Literally, that would be much easier than refuting the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is ludicrous for a little, finite deluded man to shake his puny fists in the face of Almighty God and scream, "You don’t even exist". At the same time, the innumerable stars, the complexity and balance of our enormous universe, and the incredible design of the human body, testify so loudly to the omnipotent hand of a supernatural God that only an intellectually deaf and dumb buffoon could actually question His existence.

But of course, they do.

The Lord wrote their foolish epitaph in Psalm 14:1

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. . . "

I’m reminded of the observant, five-year-old boy whose parents were devout atheists. After carefully listening to his parents and fellow atheists relish on the intellectually-insane salad titled "there is no God", he naively looked up at his dad and simply asked, "Dad, you think God knows we don’t believe in Him?"

My little friend, yes He knows. . . He certainly knows. . .

The movie "The Beast" is directed by a self-professed, "former fundamentalist" Christian named Brian Flemming. Flemming is a far-out, indie, film director whose previous works consisted of little more than outlandish, underground "cult films". His first feature film was the largely, unknown-unwanted, "Hang Your Dog in the Wind." Next was a bizarre musical titled "Bat Boy" based on a stupid article from the strange tabloid Weekly World News about a half-bat half-boy. I wonder, if Flemming got his directive on "The Beast" from the outrageous Weekly World News? Nah, even they are not that weird.

From the babbling "Bat Boy" to the blasphemous "The Beast" – at least, Flemming is aiming for bigger kooks.

It’s worth also mentioning, Flemming is a passionate soldier for the left-wing, anti-God, (and anything good) political hacks using his web blog as a sewer for the lefties agenda. Flemming also owns and operates the Fair Use Press, which channels left-wing e-books.

Back to "The Beast". . .The hapless goal of "The Beast" (where did he get that creative name?) is to "prove" that Jesus Christ never existed and was the deluded fabrication of the early Christians. "The Beast" is acrimoniously scheduled to open in theatres on none other than, June 6, 2006 or 06-06-06, symbolizing "666", the Mark of the Beast. Very creative. Wonder where he got that number? From none other than The Book he is absurdly trying to disprove. By his own perverted acknowledgment, Flemming proclaims its universal Truth.

The film trailer on "The Beast’s" website preaches the following blasphemous and libelous words: "Centuries ago, a legend was invented… forgery … fraud … coercion … wealth … greed … torture … murder … war … gave it the power to dominate the world." While these hate-filled insults pollute the screen, the face of the Lord Jesus displays in the background.

Here is how the film's website introduces "The Beast" (bold added):

When her father, a biblical scholar, mysteriously disappears, a Christian high-school student named Danielle investigates. She discovers that he had stumbled across a cover-up of Christianity's best-kept secret: that Jesus Christ never existed.
Now that she possesses proof of this dangerous fact, Danielle must confront two strong forces: a band of fundamentalist Christians who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth, and her own desire for Jesus Christ to be real.
Diving into factual territory well-explored by scholars but largely hidden from the view of the public, "The Beast" is an epic story of innocence lost, faith in crisis and the astonishing power of the truth to survive.
Did you notice those lofty accolades and adjectives thrown around such as, "biblical scholar", "proof", "fact", "truth", "real", "factual", "epic story", "truth to survive" and the awe-inspiring "scholars"! "Factual territory well-explored by scholars" – what scholars? They are probably the same silly "scholars" that the "well-explored" "Bat Boy" movie was based on. And don’t forget those mean ‘ol "fundamentalist Christians who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth."

"The Beast" website also remarks, "The authors of the Gospels, writing 40 to 90 years after the supposed life of Christ, never intended for their works to be read as biographies. There are no credible non-Christian references to Christ during the period in which he is said to have lived,"

Hmmm. . . Is that so?

The following is the well-established, well-documented and "well-explored" account of Jesus Christ written by a contemporary secular Jewish "scholar" and historian named Flavius Josephus. Josephus is the recognized authoritative scholar of ancient Jewish history. Flavius, who was born 37 A.D. and died 100 A.D., was very familiar with the person of Jesus Christ and the apostles having lived during their time period.

About this time lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he was the achiever of extraordinary deeds and was a teacher of those who accept the truth gladly. He won over many Jews and many of the Greeks. He was the Messiah. When he was indicted by the principal men among us and Pilate condemned him to be crucified, those who had come to love him originally did not cease to do so; for he appeared to them on the third day restored to life, as the prophets of the Deity had foretold these and countless other marvelous things about him. And the tribe of Christians, so named after him, has not disappeared to this day.
(Flavius Josephus, Antiquities XVIII, 63, cited in Josephus, The Essential Works by Paul L. Maier, Kregel Publications, 1988, p.265)
For many years, the above words of Josephus were fiercely attacked by secular "scholars". After all, if these were indeed the words of Josephus then these powerful words "proved" beyond any doubt to the truthfulness of the man Jesus Christ, and yea, as Josephus wrote, "if indeed one ought to call him a man". It was doubted that Josephus, a non-Christian, secular, Jewish historian could ever refer to Jesus as "the Messiah" or remotely validate the "resurrection". Because of its possible historical impact, it was among histories most repudiated documents.

That argument came to a screeching halt in 1972. Professor Schlomo Pines of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem discovered an ancient Arabic manuscript which contained this hotly-contested Josephus passage, word for word.

Hmmm. . . The "well-explored" Beastie Boy (oh sorry, that was "Bat Boy") "scholars" must have went to the library when Josephus’s Antiquities of the Jews was already checked out.

I am reminded of the well-known testimony of Dr. Simon Greenleaf.

Dr. Greenleaf, the Royal Professor of Law at Harvard University, is among the greatest legal minds that ever lived. He wrote the famous legal volume entitled, A Treatise on the Law of Evidence, considered by many scholars as the greatest legal volume ever written. Dr. Greenleaf was a bitter opponent of Christianity. He believed the resurrection of Jesus Christ was history’s greatest hoax. After being challenged by some zealous Christian students, Dr. Greenleaf determined, once and for all, to expose the silly "myth" of the resurrection. After thoroughly examining the legal evidence for the resurrection — Dr. Greenleaf came to the exact opposite conclusion! He wrote the famous book entitled, An Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists by the Rules of Evidence Administered in the Courts of Justice. After his exhaustive study to "disprove" the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Dr. Greenleaf wrote the following incredible words:

"it was IMPOSSIBLE that the apostles could have persisted in affirming the truths they had narrated, had not JESUS CHRIST ACTUALLY RISEN FROM THE DEAD, . . ."
(Simon Greenleaf, An Examination of the Testimony of the Four Evangelists by the Rules of Evidence Administered in the Courts of Justice, p.29).
Greenleaf concluded that according to the jurisdiction of legal evidence, the resurrection of Jesus Christ was the best supported event in all of history. And not only that, Dr. Greenleaf was so convinced by the overwhelming evidence, he committed his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Brian Flemming, "The Beast" and literally all of earth and hell can parade and pomp their phony, puny scholars but I KNOW Jesus Christ not only existed – but He lives today!

The indisputable and 100% factual, reason I KNOW the Lord Jesus Christ exists is I met Him July, 30, 1975. And, oh the joy that floods my soul, Some thing happened and now I know, He touched me and made me whole. As the songwriter said, "And if you ask me how I know He lives... He lives within my heart."

Do you KNOW the Lord Jesus Christ?

I’m not talking about being a church member, or doing good works, or tithing, or baptism, or catechisms, or religious and denominational dogma – but do you KNOW the person of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Friend, to KNOW the Lord Jesus Christ and His love on Calvary is the greatest knowledge, joy and peace possible. The Bible says in Philippians 4:7 to KNOW the Lord is, ". . . the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,. . ."

Would you like to really KNOW the Lord Jesus Christ?

You can.

The Lord says in 2 Corinthians 6:2, "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Now is the accepted time.

If you have never truly trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, why not now?

It is simple to be saved. The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:2, warns how Satan deceives people because the gospel of Christ is so simple.

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

We want to make it hard. We want to do something. It just can not be that simple. But praise the Lord it is that simple.

It is as simple as drinking a glass of water.

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

It is as simple as opening a door and walking through.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

It is as simple as asking the Lord Jesus Christ to save you.

in the early 90s in china,you basically cant find any rock recordings in shops.then a special kind of tape arrived here from america called 'cut-tape'('da,kou' in chinese pinying).it is checked by customs and they sell them at very cheap price to some pelple,who then sell them to us. many of these tapes are rock recordings or punk rock.

as our poor english at that time,no one knew what these guys say,we didnt pay much attention to the lyrics,to me,the solo electric guitar part is cool,always sharp,the weird rhythm,simply breathtaking,the vocals,Very emotional,With a voice that rumbles and purrs like a moody lion,to enrage or provoke emotions in a person.

but thanks to my poor level english!now i think repeated exposure to violence in music can actually inspire violence,and im really worried about how many more children are moving towards the fringe.now rock music is more than just music,its their life!it is their most devoted companion.

Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more, so that they can look healthy.
Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure.

ps：昨天做梦，我又梦见自己可以飞了，在梦中飞还是在小学才会碰见的事，以后就再没梦到过。感觉真的太爽了，似乎飞的时候还要很用力，而且你们都抓不住我，不过我想飞的时候需要用力，那时你们差点把我抓住。

这是贾平凹在一次聚会时受众人之邀即兴写的一首诗，杆杖是西北的叫法，就是木棍。“希望”纯粹以童心童趣写出，很一尘不染，很有节奏感。

这是海子写的一首叫村庄的短诗，“儿子静静地长大，母亲静静地注视”朴素的描写，却写出民间最美丽，最震撼人心的一幕。“芦花”象征少女，一位不久以后同样静静地注视儿子的母亲。

偶尔会听见我家邻居的大哥在弹电琴，开着鼓机，他不会搞得太吵，很小的声音；
有时也听见旁边单元的胖孩子在吹saxophone，尽管那孩子老爱说脏话，但saxophone的声音听起来也很不错；
晚上对面楼上有妈妈教小孩拉手风琴，是《孤独的牧羊人》，那声音基本上就在我耳朵旁边，我喜欢这种感觉；

而我的小提琴躺在写字台边上，不想动。
想起《北京人在纽约》里姜文演的王启明，后来他就再没碰过大提琴，直到后来，请了乐队，叫了阿春一人，然后在空空的剧院里演奏大提琴……
